The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (30-24) smacked four home runs and recorded seven doubles in their 12-4 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (19-34) on Sunday afternoon. Lehigh Valley won five out of six games against the RailRiders.
The ‘Pigs took a 1-0 lead against Vinny Nittoli in the top of the first inning as Darick Hall hit a sacrifice fly that scored Matt Vierling. The RailRiders tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning as Ryan LaMarre stole home against Colton Eastman. It would be the only run Eastman allowed over four innings pitched.
Lehigh Valley proceeded to score seven runs against Matt Krook (1-5) in the top of the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead. Jorge Bonifacio belted his sixth home run of the season. Will Toffey followed with a two-run double that scored Rafael Marchan and Scott Kingery. Vierling hit a three-run home run, his second one of the season, that scored Toffey and Dalton Guthrie. Dustin Peterson hit his third home run of the season for the final run of the inning.
Krook issued a walk to Drew Maggi with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning that extended Lehigh Valley’s lead to 9-1. Kingery scored on the bases loaded walk. The RailRiders scored two runs against Jeff Singer (2-1) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Greg Bird hit an RBI single that scored Ender Inciarte and Jose Peraza hit a sacrifice fly that scored Oswald Peraza.
Lehigh Valley scored three runs against Jimmy Cordero in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 12-3. Toffey hit his first home run of the season, a two-run home run that scored Kingery. Hall hit another sacrifice fly that scored Vierling. Scranton/Wilkes Barre added a run against Zach Warren in the bottom of the eighth inning that cut the ‘Pigs lead to 12-4.
